BIOGRAPHY



Wilma Hurskainen (b. 1979) lives and works in Helsinki.

Studied photography at Lahti Institute of Design and University of Art and Design / Aalto University in Helsinki. Works both as a freelance photographer for commissioned assignments and as an independent artist.

Wilma Hurskainen has had several solo exhibitions in Finland and the rest of Europe. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Europe and Asia, and her works have been exhibited at international art fairs and photography festivals. She was among the Fotofinlandia prize finalists in 2014 and 2016. Her works are included in collections of e.g. Helsinki Art Museum, Finnish Museum of Photography, Danish National Museum of Photography and Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art.

She has published three monographs: Growth (2008, Musta taide), Heiress (2012, Kerber Verlag) and The Woman Who Married a Horse (2016, Kehrer Verlag). Her works are also included in Helsinki School books vol. III, IV and V (2009, 2011, 2014, Hatje Cantz) among many other books and magazines.
