To Alice: A long time ago I saw on television how a house shrank around you. That was fascinating. At the time I had only a few clothes and a brown horse-shaped cycle shrink around me. Yet I immediately understood that this was an example of a whole series of events of which life would consist. When my horse-cycle shrank I had begun to suspect that these events would be sudden, violent. Your fate confirmed my suspicion.
